about this blog
I'm embarking on a new chapter of my life: moving from Oakland, 45 miles south down the Bay to San Jose. Oakland has been my home for the past five years and it's the only place I've ever lived as an "adult." It's where I went to graduate school, got my first real job, rented my first apartment. I'll miss Oakland's views of San Francisco, it's vibrant culture, and it's down-to-earth mentality. I'll miss the easy access to Berkeley and San Francisco. Oakland has been my nook in the Bay Area. It's where I've discovered Eric Tucker, Annie Somerville, Dona Savitsky and Thomas Schnetzmost, and countless other amazing chefs. If the kitchen is the heart of the home and home is where your heart is, then my heart lies in food. So, as I venture to my new home in the South Bay, I plan to put down my roots through the exploration of food. I hope to grow into my own in my new terroir by finding my new favorite bakeries, coffee shops, farmers markets, farms, orchards, wineries, cafes, and restaurants. I plan to start an herb garden, learn to bake bread, and spend more time with my cookbooks and jars. I'm going to use this blog to give this exploration some purpose and document this transition period. Here, I'll post my ventures in drinking, eating, cooking, and settling into my new new home.
